Grace of Monaco Movie Failed Release

Grace of Monaco Custom LabelWeinstein vs. Dahan

American vs French

With The Butler,  My week with Marilyn, The King’s Speech, and Mandela, Harvey Weinstein is trying to leave a bit of a historical record in film to which Olivier Dahan is acting hysterically.   Weinstein is objecting to Dahan taking such artistic license that the Grace of Monaco movie does not even resemble the truth of what actually happened.

The irony is that the crisis period depicted in the film between France and Monaco was heavily focused on Anti-Americanism on the part of the French, and now Dahan is spouting many anti-American statements in his stubborn refusal to comply with Weinstein’s requests to make the film more historically accurately.

Dahan is being very short-sighted because Weinstein’s help and promotion of this film could get him nominated for an Oscar. However, Dahan’s arguments in the press are leaving everyone with the impression of this film as a “pile of S**T (crap)” to use his own words.

They say there is no such thing as bad publicity, but this kind of publicity just makes it seem like this is a bad film. With not even a website for this movie, if Dahan does not change his tune, watch for Grace of Monaco to go straight to DVD.

Possible Outcomes:

If Weinstein wins this argument, watch for limited release in October with a wider release in November and Oscar push in February.

If Dahan continues being such a prima donna, prompting Weinstein to drop the film, Grace of Monaco may never see a marquee in the USA – and since it is in English, it probably does not qualify for an Oscar nomination as a “Best Foreign Language Film.”
